Obituary

Robert S. Foerster, 95, of Linwood, NJ, formerly of Ventnor, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2021 after suffering with Parkinson's disease for many years.

Born April 21, 1926, he grew up in Atlantic City. He graduated early from Atlantic City High School in 1944 to enlist in the U.S. Navy, and served as a radio man on the LST 1109 in the Pacific during World War II. After Japan surrendered he was sent to Florida to serve on the USS Cadmus AR14 in the Atlantic, and was honorably discharged in November 1946. He was recalled into service in January 1951 during the Korean War, serving on PC1232. He was again honorably discharged end of 1951.

Bob then followed his uncle into the optical business and became a well respected optician. He opened the Robert Foerster Optician company at 1616 Pacific Avenue in Atlantic City. After 40 years there, he moved his office to Ventnor with Drs. Estlow and Smith. Later he moved the office offshore, and eventually worked with Freund Brothers in Linwood and Dr. Dominic Pastore in Cape May and Somers Point.

Bob was past Commodore of the Margate City Yacht Club, Lieutenant of the Absecon Power Squadron and a member of Trinity Lodge #79. He was a proud member of the Old Man's Hockey League Club, where he skated for many years into his late 70's.

Bob lived most of his adult life living on the beach block of Harvard Avenue in Ventnor, enjoying the beach, boardwalk, neighbors and raising his family.

He is predeceased by his parents Frank (Sparky) and Nan Foerster, his brother Frank Jr., his first wife (Este) Esther Foerster, his wife Madeline Foerster, and his daughter Kathye Browne and son-in-law Jim Browne.

Bob is survived by his sons Robert Jr (Judy), Glenn (Donna) and Blair (Tracey), Michele (Matt) McCully, former daughter-in-law Debbie Genovese (John). Grandchildren Erik, Matthew, Lyndsay, Kimberly, and Matthew, Michael and Molly McCully. Sister-in-law Patricia (Bill) Baumgartel, brother-in-law Frank (Kay) Cessaro, and several great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Robert's Life Celebration Memorial Service on Thursday November 18, 2021 at 11:00am at 228 Infield Ave., Northfield, NJ 08225. A visitation will be held at Jeffries and Keates from 10:00am until time of service. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Michael J.
