Loving Husband, Father, and Grandfather


John "Jack" H. Rufe, Sr., 93, of Ventnor, New Jersey, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 2, 2021. Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Oswin and Mary (Fox) Rufe. He was the devoted husband of Elizabeth (Speliotes) Saridakis Rufe with whom he spent over 31 loving years.

Jack was raised in Margate, New Jersey, and was a graduate of Atlantic City High school, class of 1945. Jack bravely served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII and was part of the army of occupation in Japan. Honorably serving his tour of service, Jack returned home and graduated from Rutgers University with a Bachelor of Science in 1951.

Jack went to work for New Jersey Bell Telephone Company, now AT&T. He worked for AT&T for over 36 years and became Corporate Vice-President of Human Resources. Following his retiring in 1987, Jack was a global telecommunications consultant.

Jack enjoyed boating, fishing, golfing, traveling, and was an avid reader of history books. He also enjoyed listening to Frank Sinatra while sipping his merlot wine.

Jack will be missed and fondly remembered by his wife; Elizabeth Rufe, children; John (Sharon) Rufe, Jr., Mavis (Kent) Deary, George (Susan) Saridakis, Anthony Saridakis, Cynthia (John) Obelenus, Dianne (Matt Chellel) Saridakis, grandchildren; Katherine Rufe, Kelly Rufe, Taylor Deary, Morgan Deary, Paul Runyon, Jr., Elena Obelenus, Joann Saridakis, Zoe Saridakis, George Obelenus, Michael Saridakis. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife Mavis (Shoemaker) Rufe and son Eric Rufe.

Jack's Life Celebration Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, January 7, 2021, at 11:00 AM, at Atlantic County Veterans Cemetery, 109 NJ-50, Mays Landing, NJ 08330. Military Honors rendered by the Last Salute Military Funeral Honor Guard. The family also sincerely thanks Angelic Health Palliative and Hospice Care for the wonderful care and support provided. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jack's memory to a charity of one's choice.
